About Sun Country Airlines
Sun Country is another one of those small US airlines that offer ultra-low airfares for their passengers. It started operations in 1983, but it encountered financial troubles once the 2000s rolled in. Sun Country has recovered a bit (though the pandemic didn’t help), but today it has a fleet of about 55 planes flying to 81 destinations.
Reasons to Fly Sun Country
Here are some of the more common reasons why people go with Sun Country
Low Prices
This is perhaps the most popular reason to pick Sun Country. After all, why pay more for a flight when you can pay a lot less? Sun Country does offer a more limited range of services and features, but it gets you where you need to go without forcing you to pay for stuff you don’t need or don’t want.
Lots of Continuous Flights
It offers plenty of nonstop flights to a lot of destinations, and that’s super-convenient to many passengers. It means you travel for a shorter time, and fewer things can go wrong. It’s a lot less of a hassle with these continuous flights.
Convenient Modes of Payment
You can, of course, pay in US dollars. But you can also pay in other currencies, like the euro, the Chinese yuan, the Indian rupee, and even with the kina of Papua New Guinea. And you can do this without an additional cost. Sun Country also has at least 25 international modes of payments, with adequate security for the transaction and without too much hassle.
Excellent Customer Service
Sun Country may be a small airline (it’s regarded as the 11th largest airline in the US), but they can compare with the larger airlines with the quality of their customer service. Customer satisfaction with the airline is quite high, by many accounts.
Satisfactory Inflight Services
As you might expect, the inflight services are quite limited. You do get your money’s worth. But these services are still quite good enough that most people have no complaints. Basically, you can sit back and work as you fly, or you can always just sit back and sleep.
Sun Country Baggage Fees and Policies
For Carry-On
First off, you’re allowed to bring in a personal item for free. There’s no specified weight limit for your personal item, though there are size restrictions. The dimensions of the item cannot exceed 17 by 13 by 9 inches.
For your carry-on bag, you can’t have it weigh more than 35 pounds. It also cannot be bigger than 24 by 16 by 11 inches.
If you’re flying with your infant, your baby doesn’t have a carry-on allowance. But you can check the baby’s car seat and stroller for free, either at the ticketing desk or at the gate.
You do have to pay for that carry-on bag, though the exact fee will depend on when you pay for it.
- It’s $30 at the time of booking online.
- It’s $38 at the time of booking via the contact center, during online post-booking, during online-check-in, or during post-booking through the contact center.
- It’s $45 if you pay at the airport.
For Checked Baggage
Each checked bag cannot total more than 62 linear inches (when adding the inch dimensions for length, width, and height). Also, it shouldn’t weigh more than 50 pounds or else you’ll pay overweight fees for the bags.
The exact fee will again depend on when you pay for the checked bags. For the 1st bag, it’s up to $30 if you pay online at the time of booking, but the fee goes up later in the process. If you pay at the airport, it will cost you $45 for that 1st bag.
The 2nd bag will cost you $40 at the time of booking, and $50 at the airport. For the 3rd bag, it ranges from $40 to $60 at the airport.
If your bag is too heavy and weighs up to 60 pounds, the excess baggage fee is $20. Up to 100 pounds, and it’s $60. If it’s too large, then you’ll pay an extra $100. Active US military personnel are allowed 1 overhead bag and 2 checked bags for free, with oversized bag fees waived for the first 2 checked bags.
