About Sunwing Airlines
Sunwing is a relatively new airline, with its operations starting just in 2005. It’s relatively small, with a fleet of 27 Boeing planes, mostly 737-800s with a few 737 MAX 8 planes.
The planes fly to 73 destinations, mostly holiday spots in the Americas during the winter months. During the summer, they also offer domestic flights across Canada.
Reasons to Fly Sunwing
Low Costs
This is a very popular reason to fly Sunwing. After all, why pay more than you have to? You pay low for basic service, and that’s the point. You don’t have to pay for amenities you don’t really care for.
Terrific for Holidays Down South
It can get very cold in Canada, and during those times, don’t you wish you can just fly south for the winter? That’s easy with Sunwing, since they fly to more than 45 holiday destinations down south. These are scattered across the Caribbean, Florida, Mexico, and South America.

Who says you can’t get good snacks on a plane without paying exorbitant fees? At Sunwing flights, you can check out the Sunwing Café menu and enjoy a wide range of food at very reasonable prices.
You can just get yourself a tapas box, or maybe a Margherita pizza. If you want a hot meal, you can try Schwartz’s World Famous Original Smoked Meat on a pretzel roll. You can also get a fresh and flaky croissant piled high with turkey and Swiss cheese, or a yummy cheese tray.
For younger kids, there’s also the specially designed Kidcations snack box, with fun snacks that are also healthy for the little ones.
For drinks, you have complimentary sodas, along with tea and coffee. But you can also order a beer, wine, or liquor.
Great For Kids
If you have little kids flying with you, then you know that they can be problematic if they get restless and bored. Sunwing is aware of that issue, which is why they offer a free Sunwing backpack for the kids. Each backpack is filled with lots of activities for the kids to enjoy.
Sunwing Baggage Fees and Policies
For Carry-On
You’re allowed 1 personal item and 1 carry-on bag. For all these items, the weight limit is only 11 pounds each.
The personal item is usually small, as it has to conform to a size limit of 9 by 11 by 5 inches. That usually means a handbag or purse, a laptop bag with the laptop inside, a small briefcase or messenger bag, or even a camera bag.
For the carry-on bag, the size limit is 9 by 16 by 20 inches. That generally means a backpack or duffel bag, or even a small suitcase.
If you’re traveling with an infant, you can add a diaper bag along with the personal item and carry-on bag, but it should also be within the size and weight limits.
For Checked Baggage
The first checked bag will cost you $26.25, though it’s $21 with pre-purchase. The second checked bag is $36.75, but only $31.50 pre-purchase.
For the 3rd and subsequent checked bags, it’s $210 per bag. However, these additional bags will be subject to space availability, even if you’ve paid beforehand.
All these bags should be no heavier than 50 pounds each, and they should measure no more than a total of 62 linear inches (adding the inches for length, width, and height). Overweight or oversized bags will be charged an additional $78.75 for each bag. The absolute size limit is 115 total linear inches, while the absolute weight limit is 70 pounds for each bag. The bags won’t be accepted if they go over any of these limits.
