About JetBlue Airlines

JetBlue is famous for its reasonable airfare rates, though it has already become the 7th largest airline in North America, at least according to the number of passengers carried. It only started operations in 2000, and it now has a fleet of 285 with 104 destinations. Most of its operations are within the eastern US.

Why Fly JetBlue?

There are plenty of good reasons why you may want to fly with JetBlue. In fact, JetBlue has been rated as the #1 Low-Cost Airline in North America in 2020, and the #1 for Passenger Comfort in North America by TripAdvisor travelers.

Lots of Destinations

For the most part, it covers plenty of great destinations especially across the US, Caribbean, and Latin America. From New York or Boston, you can also fly directly to London.

Reasonable Fares

The fares allow you to choose your own priorities. You can pick the fare that’s the lowest, or give you features such as advance seat selection, boarding priority, and even points earned. In most cases, you don’t need to pay a fee when you change or cancel your flight plans.

Free “Fly-Fi”

The gate-to-gate Wi-Fi is wonderful, as that means you won’t have to be bored as long as you have your mobile with you. You can always just amuse yourself for hours online through social media and gaming, while you monitor important incoming email messages.

Fantastic Inflight Experience

The Wi-Fi is just the start of your entertainment options while you’re flying. You also get a lot of legroom in a coach seat, and you can also opt for the bigger “Even More Space” seat.

You get free, brand-name snacks + drinks, including good coffee. The freshly brewed Dunkin’ coffee is available here. You can buy EatUp boxes for flights over 2 hours, and on certain flights longer than 3½ hours, you can check out the EatUp Café menu.

And as for entertainment, you have an extensive movie library to check out, along with live DirectTV within the coverage area. You can check out the Showtime TV shows and access Bloomberg.com for the whole trip. Or if you just want music, there are more than a hundred music and comedy stations thanks to SiriusXM Radio.

Just make sure you bring your own earphones. But if you forget your earphones, you can still buy them from JetBlue.

JetBlue Baggage Fees and Policies

For Carry-On

All fares allow you to bring along 1 personal item with you onboard. It just has to fit under the seat in front of you. This can be a laptop bag, a daypack, a purse, or even a pet carrier (with approval). Your personal item cannot be longer than 17 inches, wider than 13 inches, or taller than 8 inches.

If you’re flying on Blue Basic, then your airfare doesn’t cover a carry-on bag. That means if you’re bringing in a carry-on bag along with your personal item, you’ll have to pay an additional fee for checked bags. It’s $65 for the 1st and 2nd checked bag, and $180 for the 3rd.

All the other fares (Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra and Mint) cover the carry-on bag, as long as it fits into the overhead cabin. It can’t be longer than 22 inches, wider than 14 inches, or taller than 9 inches.

For Checked Bags

Some fares cover up to 2 checked bags. But if your fare doesn’t cover the cost of the checked bags, you can save some money by paying for them in advance through the JetBlue app or the Jet.Blue.com website. In many cases, it’s $35 for the 1st bag and $45 for the 2nd checked bag.

You should also make sure that your checked bags are within the size and limits. The checked bags dimensions should not total 62 linear inches (that is, when you add the inches for length, width, and height). These measurements also include the handles and wheels.

Also, each bag should not weigh more than 50 pounds. Keep in mind that these limits may be different if you’re flying internationally. If your bag is too heavy (up to 99 pounds) or if your bag is too large (up to 80 linear inches), you pay $150 for each bag (or £120 to/from London).
