About West Jet Airlines
WestJet is a Canadian airline that started operations in 1996. It’s now regarded as the 2nd largest of the Canadian airlines, next only to Air Canada. It averages about 777 flights and more than 66,000 passengers per day. Its fleet of at least 162 planes flies to more than a hundred destinations (most of them in North America).
Great Reasons to Fly WestJet
Low Airfare
This is perhaps the most common reason to go fly with WestJet, but you’re also getting a lot of value for your money. And if you wish to go fly Business or Premium, you’re really getting a lot without having to pay too much for the various additional services and features.
Terrific Inflight Entertainment
As long as you have your mobile device (and who of us don’t bring our smartphones with us at all times), you won’t be bored. The WestJet Connect Wi-Fi service offers you plenty of entertainment options. The in-seat power even makes sure your mobile device won’t run out of battery power.
All you really have to do is to download the free WestJet app, and you’re all set. You can then immediately stream plenty of free movies and TV shows, so that the flight doesn’t seem all that long. You can just listen to music if you want.
In fact, WestJet partners with Calm so you can even enjoy a wide variety of relaxing stuff to listen to. Your options include meditations, Sleep Stories, and various relaxation exercises.
WestJet Baggage Fees and Policies
For Carry-On
You can bring in a personal item and a carry-on bag for free, though you have to make sure that they meet the size requirements.
For the carry-on bag, it can’t be bigger than 21 by 9 by 15 inches. It has to be small enough to fit inside the overhead cabin. As for its weight, it should be light enough that you can place it inside the overhead cabin without needing any assistance. Of course, if you have a disability, you can request for help.
For the personal item, it has to be 16 by 6 by 13 inches at the most. It has to fit in the space under the seat in front of you. Usually, this personal item is a laptop, a camera, or a purse.
If your item is larger, then it will be regarded as checked baggage.
Some special items can be permitted in addition to your 1 personal item and 1 carry-on bag. These include a diaper bag, a car seat, duty-free alcohol, and food in disposable packages meant for onboard consumption. You can also bring in approved medical devices such as portable oxygen concentrators, mobility devices like walking canes, and various personal electronic devices.
For Checked Baggage
The checked baggage shouldn’t weigh more than 50 pounds, and should measure 62 total linear inches (adding the length, width, and height inches). You can save some money when you pre-pay for your flights, and pre-pay for your 1st and 2nd checked bags. The fees increase by $10 if you pay only within 24 hours of departure or when you’re checking-in at the airport for travel.
The fees depend on several factors, such as the kind of flight, your destination, and how many checked bags you’ve got. If you’re flying from Canada, you have to factor in the Goods and Service Tax (GST). Also, this is a Canadian airline so all the fees are in Canadian dollars. But for flight departures outside Canada, the baggage fees will be converted and charged in the local currency.
The Premium, PremiumFlex, Business, or BusinessFlex airfare already cover the costs of the first 2 checked bags, so you don’t pay extra for those.
For EconoFlex, there’s no fee for the 1st checked bag. It’s $50-$59 for the 2nd bag when you pre-pay, and $60-$71 when you pay at the check-in.
For the Econo, Member Inclusive or Basic passengers, the 1st checked bag can cost $30 to $47.20. The 2nd checked bag fee ranges from $50 to $71.
For everyone, the fees for the 3rd and 4th checked bags will range from $100 to $118. Overweight and Oversized checked bags will cost you another $100 to $118 each.
